I was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi and my parents and I lived in Sledge, Mississippi (the home of Charlie Pride) and later moved to Batesville, Mississippi where I went to high school. I love the great state of Mississippi and I'm proud to call it home. My favorite restaurant in Mississippi is Ajax on the Oxford Square. Recently Paul and I visited my home for Christmas. My mom took us to eat at the new and only sushi restaurant in Batesville. We also visited The Caramel Factory and Talk of the Town which carries Peter's Pottery, beautiful pottery made from Mississippi mud. Here's an excerpt from my Holiday Food Diary about this part of the trip:
Christmas Eve 2015
Mom took us to lunch at Zaxby's and then after church that evening at First Baptist Batesville we ate at the Chinese buffet close to my parents' home. I love any Chinese buffet anywhere, anytime. I especially loved it that Louisiana hot sauce was on every table. I love the South so much. I finally got to visit The Caramel Factory in Batesville, MIssissippi. I've always wanted to stop in this place on Hwy 6. The caramel cakes are heavenly but I discovered the white chocolate caramel cashew turtles and they were unbelievably good! I haven't tried the praline sugar cookie or the chocolate pralines yet but I'm sure they'll be heavenly too. I'll definitely be stopping in again the next time I visit my home in Mississippi.
Christmas Day 2015
We opened many presents (Santa gave me two Peter's Pottery Mississippi shaped dishes) and Mom made lunch. She made a delicious sweet potato soufflé that Aunt Mildred used to make for the Christmas celebration at her house on Northwood Drive. I always want my mom's strawberry jello and sour cream salad and she made it. She had a honey baked ham that we took leftovers from. She made green bean casserole and cornbread dressing in the crock pot. For dessert there was pecan pie.

Delta State University - my alma mater. I will always be a Fighting Okra (officially the mascot is The Statesmen). I loved college, loved my professors, my roommates and my friends. It was a great four years and it's nice to go back to Cleveland, Mississippi and visit. Below are pictures of Hey Joe's Restaurant, bags of real treasure from McCarty Pottery in Marigold, Mississippi, and an image of The Fighting Okra. Fear the Okra!
May 2016 - I went home for a visit to Mississippi to see my mom and friends. I spent most of my time in Memphis eating all my favorite foods but I made it to Talk of the Town Pottery, Yamato sushi (a few times), the new Tanger Mall in Southaven, Abbay's for some really good soul food, The Caramel Factory, and Oxford, MS to eat at Ajax and shop the historic square. Mom cut up fruit for my breakfast every morning. It was the only healthy food I ate the entire trip.
